From World Water Day (March 22nd) until Earth Day (April 22nd) the Tesuque After-School Program (TAP) and others interested are reaching out in solidarity to the 1.3 billion people in the world who do not have access to water. All families from the Pueblo and beyond are welcome to join us on Thurs March 22nd at 3:30 for a WALK-A-THON from the IGC to the Tesuque Village Market to kick off the project and show our support for the millions of families who have to walk this 4 mile distance everyday to get their water.
We will be selling special sport water bottles with the project logo until Earth Day yo raise money for building a school based rainwater harvesting system in Chad, Africa with the capacity to capture, treat and recycle the water for critical needs. The money will be sent to Green Cross (Michael Gorbachev's organization working for universal access to clean and affordable water) and used exclusively for this project. Crystal Springs Water Company has covered the cost of 500 sport water bottles and now we are working hard to re-sell the sport water bottles for $5 each to raise $2,500. The Tesuque Village Market, Camel Rock Casino and other partners (we welcome your help!) are helping us sell the water bottles. We are also looking for a team of donors (if you are interested let us know) who could collectively match what we raise to bring the total to $5,000 - the total cost for the rainwater harvesting system including education and fitting solar technology.
After announcing their project at the Futures for Children Youth Leadership Summit (March 9th), the children will share their project experiences to the Pueblo of Tesuque community on Thursday April 19th at 5pm at the Environment Department's Earth Day event at the IGC. We hope that through this project - as we learn how so many people in the world are struggling with issue of access to clean and affordable water - we will have an impact overseas and raise awareness here at home of the need to conserve and care for our limited water resources. We welcome any media attention to help us sell enough water bottles on-time and raise awareness for this cause.
