Justice
Global climate change results in the widespread loss of human life and vast extinction of wildlife, it brings about massive economic devastation, and endangers the very sources of life on earth. The wealthiest Nations’ prized quality of life will suffer significantly from climate change, but the most populous and poorest people of the planet stand to be hurt the most.
Since this problem is caused in large part by mankind and the United States is guilty of emitting per capita and historically the most greenhouse gas emissions, our Nation’s on-going fossil fuel consumption is becoming blatantly immoral. In fact if the US persists and perpetuates a gluttonous and exorbitant greenhouse gas emitting existence, it will be a crime against humanity potentially more harmful than any other in history.
Now more than ever is the time to do what is right by changing our ways and restoring the basic fabric of dignity with our fellow human beings.
The Process & Purpose of the CCLI Justice Seed Grant
The Climate Change Leadership Institute (CCLI) gives out a Justice Seed Grant every year. The purpose of this is to recognize and make amends for the fact that vulnerable communities and people who are struggling the most yet contributing the least to climate pollution are being impacted the most by the severity of human-induced climate change. Meanwhile the wealthiest ten percent of the world’s population, the United States who is the greatest per capita historical emitter of green house gasses, along with the other most developed nations, are causing climate change impacts and have a moral responsibility to make amends.
For the sake of human dignity and justice for all and in the spirit of reconciliation, the Climate Change Leadership Institute (CCLI) encourages the US to lead in resolving the climate crisis and providing relief to those most unduly affected by the U.S. driven climate pollution.
CCLI has a small seed grant program to at least provide climate justice gestures of good will towards those most locally affected and to those in our community who are working to address climate injustice.
We welcome nominations. Please e-mail your nomination to ccli@takeresponsibility.us of an organization or person that is actively and effectively working for climate justice locally and beyond and/or a person, a family or a community in the region or world that has been noticeably harmed by climate change and who could definitely stand to benefit from a sustainability gift or donation. Please provide a compelling justification for your nomination as well as secure contact information and/or credible mailing instructions for us to reach the nominee.
CCLI’s climate justice grants are given out annually.
